Denise Stewart is an executive coach, speaker, and communications strategist with more than a decade of experience helping leaders clarify their message, strengthen their presence, and navigate moments where stakes, visibility, and complexity are high. She works with executives, faculty, founders, and senior administrators to translate expertise into clear, confident communication that builds trust, authority, and alignment.
As a consultant to universities, healthcare systems, corporations, and nonprofit organizations, Denise helps clients prepare for pivotal moments—high-stakes presentations, public forums, media interactions, strategic storytelling initiatives, and periods of professional transition. Her approach emphasizes clarity over performance, presence over polish, and communication as a relational act rather than a scripted one.
She is a Lecturer at the University of Virginia’s Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, where she teaches public speaking and leadership communication to undergraduate and graduate students. She has also led workshops and trainings for research fellows, physicians, administrators, and executive teams across the university and in affiliated institutions. Her academic and professional work is grounded in the belief that effective leadership communication is not merely about persuasion, but about credibility, emotional intelligence, and the ability to meet an audience where they are.
Denise’s collaboration with People-AI-HR addresses the leadership credibility and communication demands of GenAI-driven HR transformation. In joint engagements, Denise works with senior leaders at moments of heightened visibility—such as announcing AI initiatives, addressing workforce implications, or navigating skepticism—to ensure their messages convey authority, clarity, and trust. She partners alongside People-AI-HR’s GenAI strategy, HR operating model, and adoption work so that complex change is not only well designed, but credibly led and received across the organization.
Drawing on her background as a theatre artist, Denise brings a distinctive, embodied approach to executive presence—focusing on voice, physicality, narrative structure, and the subtle dynamics of power, status, and trust. Clients often seek her out when they are highly competent in their fields but want their communication to better reflect their authority, values, and strategic intent.
In addition to her coaching and consulting practice, Denise is an experienced facilitator and keynote speaker, known for blending rigor, warmth, and practical tools. Her work helps leaders communicate with greater confidence under pressure, respond skillfully to challenge and ambiguity, and anchor their messages in shared purpose.
Denise holds a B.A. from Catawba College, an M.F.A. from the University of Virginia, and a Certificate in Nutrition from Cornell University
